TRiP Foundation’s Philippines Projects

The Philippines is a country of breathtaking natural beauty and deep cultural heritage, yet many communities face significant economic and environmental challenges. As part of Where Sidewalks End’s TRiP Foundation, we are committed to supporting grassroots initiatives that protect the environment and uplift local communities.

WSE Travel stands strongly behind our T.R.I.P. philosophy: Travel Responsibly, Impact Positively. As part of our initiative to ensure a positive impact is made from our guests’ travels with us, we donate 2% of the Gross Sales Price of their tour or experience bought through Where Sidewalks End. *

We sponsor either a community social project, an environmental project, or an animal protection project within the country they visit. The funds donated are by us on behalf of our guests by Where Sidewalks End, without costing them anything additional.

As local representatives of these countries and communities, we feel our responsibility is to give back to protect and preserve our destinations. This should not be asked of in addition to the hard-earned money our guests are already spending for their well-deserved holidays (though additional donations for the projects are encouraged should our guests wish to take this initiative).

All amounts raised and collected for our TRiP Foundation are donated at the end of the calendar year to these awesome projects:

About this Organization

Tribes and Natures Defenders IncAssociation of Locally Empowered Youth in Northern Mindanao (ALEY-NM) Inc supports young people in Northern Mindanao who face limited economic opportunity and declining interest in farming. Many rural youth leave their communities in search of work in cities, often finding themselves in unstable and low-paying jobs that deepen cycles of poverty.

Through this project, ALEY-NM trains youth in regenerative agriculture and permaculture practices that restore soil health, improve farm productivity, and create diversified income sources. By combining hands-on training with practical farming inputs, the program empowers youth to build sustainable livelihoods while remaining connected to their land and communities.

How This Project Helps

Builds Skills and Confidence – Trains youth in regenerative agriculture and sustainable farming techniques they can apply immediately.
Strengthens Food Security – Supports small-scale integrated farms that improve local food production and resilience.
Creates Long-Term Livelihoods – Helps youth develop multiple income streams, reducing reliance on unstable urban employment.
Promotes Environmental Regeneration – Encourages farming practices that restore soil, recycle local resources, and protect ecosystems.

Save the Sacred Forest and Build Tribal Economy

Save the Sacred Forest and Build Tribal Economy is a community-led initiative supporting the protection of the Alik Sacred Forest in Mindanao, home to the Indigenous Higa-onon people. The forest is central to the tribe’s cultural identity and plays a vital role in preserving biodiversity, water sources, and traditional ways of life. For years, the area faced increasing pressure from deforestation and land acquisition linked to mining and extractive industries.

Through TRiP Foundation donations, this project supported efforts to safeguard ancestral land, strengthen forest monitoring, and reinforce community-led conservation. Funding also contributed to regenerative livelihood initiatives, including small-scale coffee and cacao farming, helping families build sustainable income while remaining rooted in their land.

By supporting both environmental protection and economic resilience, this project helped Indigenous communities defend their territory while strengthening long-term self-sufficiency. We’re proud to have supported a project that centered Indigenous leadership, protected irreplaceable ecosystems, and contributed to lasting community resilience.
