TRiP Foundation’s Mexico Projects

Mexico is a country of much wealth compared to some of its southern neighbors. It is also very rich in natural beauty. However, there is still a great demand for help here, often unseen to the general public or tourists.

WSE Travel stands strongly behind our T.R.I.P. philosophy: Travel Responsibly, Impact Positively. As part of our initiative to ensure a positive impact is made from our guests’ travels with us, we donate 2% of the Gross Sales Price of their tour or experience bought through Where Sidewalks End. *

We sponsor either a community social project, an environmental project, or an animal protection project within the country they visit. The funds donated are by us on behalf of our guests by Where Sidewalks End, without costing them anything additional.

As local representatives of these countries and communities, we feel our responsibility is to give back to protect and preserve our destinations. This should not be asked of in addition to the hard-earned money our guests are already spending for their well-deserved holidays (though additional donations for the projects are encouraged, should our guests wish to take this initiative).

All amounts raised and collected for our TRiP Foundation are donated at the end of the calendar year to these awesome projects:

Organization: Centro de Compartimiento, A.C.

About this Organization

Centro de Compartimiento, A.C. supports Indigenous women in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca through personal development and leadership training. In many communities, women are underrepresented in leadership roles and may face active barriers to participation in decision-making spaces.

This program helps women strengthen self-knowledge, build practical skills, and understand the social systems shaping their lives, to develop confident community leaders. The project is based on a Servant Leadership model and prepares women for leadership in family life, community organizations, workplaces, and local government.

How This Project Helps

Builds Women’s Leadership Skills: Supports women through structured personal development and leadership courses.
Promotes Gender Equity in Communities: Helps participants understand gender equity and strengthen their ability to advocate for change.
Strengthens Community Decision-Making: Women leaders tend to be inclusive and community-driven, bringing wider needs into local planning.
Expands Opportunity for Indigenous Women: Creates pathways for women to step into roles where they can influence long-term outcomes for families and communities.

Ye La – Chocolate de la Selva

Ye La – Chocolate de la Selva is a cooperative of small-scale cacao producers in the Chinantla region of Oaxaca, working toward economic independence and long-term sustainability. Like many rural producers, these families historically faced exploitation by predatory middlemen, often called coyotes, who paid unfair prices for high-quality cacao.

Through TRiP Foundation donations, Ye La was able to renovate its workshop, improve production capacity, and strengthen direct-to-consumer sales channels. This support helped stabilize incomes, preserve traditional cacao cultivation and chocolate-making practices, and reinforce a women-led cooperative model rooted in community ownership.

By meeting their fundraising goals, Ye La reached a point where continued external funding is no longer essential. We’re proud to have supported a project that moved from vulnerability toward long-term independence and no longer relies on ongoing donations.
